S.A.L.C.E Evaluations

General Information
S.A.L.C.E. stands for Substance Abuse
/ Live Circumstance Evaluation Survey. It is likely that your
attorney suggested you take it because it is required by many
judges before getting your license back after a DWI.
The evaluation is 98 questions. You hand write
the answers on the evaluation sheet itself. Most questions
are “yes” or “no”. After you complete your answers, I put
them in the computer and the computer generates a response.
The response evaluates your ability to tell the truth, the
level of stress you’re experiencing in your life presently
and it evaluates the level of alcohol and drug use and symptoms
in your life. It also recommends if treatment is indicated
and if so, what level.
After we review the computer generated response,
I do a clinical evaluation to review your answers and get
information so we can evaluate the computer summary and confirm
(or not) if it is accurate according to you. I then make suggestions
as to how you can avoid alcohol related problems in the future.
The computer generated response
and my clinical summary are then sent to your attorney. You
may also receive a faxed copy.
Appointments
All appointments to take the evaluation are made via phone.
Once you call, appointments are usually scheduled within 2
or 3 days. After that, it takes a few days to complete the
formal report and forward it to your attorney.
Evaluations need to be completed with results to your attorney
prior to your court date.
